In the book The World Is Flat, Thomas Friedman discusses the issues arising from the competitions of businesses and globalization. As he explores these issues of the fast evolving economies of the world, he proposes the problems we are facing and some possible solutions to these problems.
He presents a theory that the world is flat. To support his theory, he presents real-world examples as undeniable evidence. People are becoming more able to collaborate and compete with others from all over the world and that is proof the world really is flat.
After introducing Friedman's theory, he moves on to tell us about his journey that led him to discover this realisation. He begins this journey in Bangalore, India where he meets Indian workers and business people working for American companies; one of which is Jerry. Jerry guides us through some examples of outsourcing.
After that Friedman discusses the ten forces that flattened the world:
1) the collapse of the Berlin War
2) Netscape
3) Workflow Software
4) Open sourcing
5) Outsourcing
6) Offshoring
7) Supply Chaining
8) Insourcing
9) In-forming
10) "The Steroids"
After he discussed the ten flatteners, he moved on to talk about globalization and how it affects the whole world.
I enjoyed reading the summary of the book; I thought that Thomas Friedman was very clever in the way that he expressed his ideas and theories.
